How to make a press release successful

By Umar Farid

What a lot of companies fail to understand is that journalists and other media outlets receive dozens and sometimes hundreds of press releases every single day. And what this means is that if you send a generic press release out about how well your company is doing, it is unlikely that anyone is going to have the motivation to open it; let alone read it.

Companies need to start understanding how to stand out from the crowd and make their press releases different, but most importantly, interesting.

If you want to get your press release noticed, then you have got to ensure that it is newsworthy. The story has got to be fresh and relevant if you want it to get noticed. The thing that a lot of people find difficult is knowing what is newsworthy in the first place. Once you have got something newsworthy though, you have also got to know how to make it even more noticeable. You might need the help of a PR agency for this.

You have got to really work out what it is that your company can offer. What problems do your company's services and products address? Once you have established the answer to this, then you can start making a fuss about the problems and then your company's solutions will come across as important and relevant.

A human interest angle can really help to make your story a little more newsworthy. Adding the human touch can bring the story to life and can ensure that people can relate to it.

And finally, if you can link your story to an issue or event that is currently in the news, then you are automatically making it more relevant and topical and this can really help to improve the chances of success.

So before you get involved with press releases, you should make the effort to understand them and know why they work. In this way, you are much more likely to be successful and this success can be even greater if you have a PR agency working with you.
