Things to Consider When Choosing A PR Company

By Matt Thompson

So much has been written about finding the right public relations agency. There are thousand of public relations firm New York offering their services all throughout the U.S.; and each claims to specialize in dozens of different areas.

As someone who is responsible to hire a PR firm, it is vitally important to know what to look out for from a public relations New York agency. Listed below are some questions to consider when searching for the best PR firm in town.

1. Where do you start? 2. What do you look for? 3. How much should you pay? 4. What is unique about the company that you'd want to consider them? 5. Who is going to work for you? 6. Is the company location important? 7. What should you expect and how do you measure success?

These are only some of the questions that will arise along the process of hiring a firm to take care of your company's public relations. These questions should be asked and answered before sealing the deal with a PR firm. The real issues that become important should be evaluated within the context of your company's needs and goals.

To be able to acquire qualified answers, it's vital that one has knowledge of how PR firms work and which method will work best for the company. One can check on references from colleagues, industry sources, and the like to have short lists of a group of likely PR companies. You have to remember that not every PR agency is listed and quantified in every directory, because there are times that new ones are popping almost all the time while others are merging or just fading away. And, during this process, evaluation can become problematic when working with limited knowledge-base.

Options in choosing a PR agency is restricted if the public relations budget is small. Generally, PR firms do not advertise their fees for services they perform. They tend to promote their expertise in the business and then charge you based on the size of your budget. They tailor their services based on the size of your company's budget. However, there are cases that clients complain that their agency goes beyond the budget and this is something you should be cautious about when choosing a PR agency. Clear out budget and over-service issues right before contracts are made official.

The secret behind a successful PR agency search relies in the depth of the research conducted. The greater amount time spent on searching for a PR company, the better chance of bringing home a winner. Be vigilant and don't be tempted by fancy promotions for they tend to make you forget the important aspects in choosing a PR agency.

By Matt Thompson

Store A Place In Their Minds With Promotional USB Drives

By Ann Christopher

Marketing products are among the best ways for a organization to get its name well known. If the item is one that's used frequently, the name imprinted on it soon becomes locked in the owner's memory. If the item is one that's seen by other people besides the owner, then the name is spread even further. Marketing USB flash drives are one of those gifts that fit all the criteria of a good advertisement.

When a advertising USB drive is given to someone, every time they use it the company name on it's seen and handled. Anyone who stops by that person's desk or work area is also exposed to the business name. Since a USB drive is usually a frequently used item, that advertising is displayed to more people than an item infrequently used.

Useful promotional items have a longer usage lifespan as well. Many items used in promotions are used for a short while then pushed to the back of a drawer and no longer used or displayed. These types of items will bring in new business for a short while, but as they are pushed aside their value as an advertising agent is lost. A promotional USB drive, on the other hand, will be used any time data is needed to be carried from one computer to another without exposing possibly sensitive information to an e-mail system. Information on a USB drive can safely be carried from one computer to another without that exposure happening.

A promotional USB drive is just as important to the individual as to the business world. You can carry in your pocket important information that is personal but necessary to have, especially if the person is a college student. Many businesses also can accept a resume as an electronic file rather than a paper file. They are also an excellent way for a person to carry photographs of family, friends and trips to share with another person on their computer.

Promotional USB drives could be just the small item with a big impact that your company needs to get its name out in the public world. Being small, they fit in a pocket or purse and are light and highly portable, yet have many uses. Whether your business is looking for growth from other businesses or from individuals, a small promotional USB drive can get your name out there in a big way.

Creating A Walking Advertisement Campaign For Your Business And Spread The Word

By Ann Christopher

Did you know that there is a relatively low cost way to turn yourself, the employees, and even your clients into walking talking billboards for your brand? Advertising clothing! We are talking about t shirts, caps, polo's, sweatshirts, jackets, and anything else you can place your logo on. Take a look around at all the biggest and best companies in the world and you are going to see that almost all of them use printed clothing at some level.

The most common way to roll out a promotional apparel campaign is to hand it out to each and every employee. If you manage a retail shop, a restaurant, or an automotive service center, for example, chances are you're already doing this. T-shirts, polo's, and hats with company logos have become typical at all of the large chains in these industries and small organization owners are beginning to make the most this opportunity to promote their brand too. Even if you do not have a retail type location, your staff can still wear business clothing at trade shows, out on sales calls, or even just around the workplace.

Another excellent opportunity to launch into a advertising clothing campaign is with customers. Quite a few retail establishments and restaurants sell clothing with their logo on it to patrons and others give them away during promotions. No matter how you get your gear into their hands, when they put on your clothing it is an instant marketing opportunity for your organization. How many times have you seen a friend wearing a t-shirt from a local bar or restaurant? How many people have you seen in the community wearing clothing from their children's schools? Have a look at Coca-Cola, they sell t shirts at Target and Wal-Mart with their logo and individuals buy it up like crazy.

Of course, the size of your operation will dictate the scope of your advertising clothing campaign but even if you run a one person operation, you can be your own billboard! There are many national organizations that sell large volumes of screen printed and embroidered apparel at prices that start at just a couple of dollars per item. Watch minimum quantity restrictions and also check local options.

The shops right in your home town will likely offer a competitive price with quality customer service and potentially lower minimum order requirements. Take that first step and maximize your exposure. Turn yourself, your employees, and even your customers into a great marketing campaign for your company!

Search Engine Marketing

By Takara Alexis

Search engine marketing commonly gets confused with search engine optimization, but there is a distinct difference between the two, money. When engaging in search engine optimization there is usually no money being paid whereas search engine marketing requires you to pay in order to get access to the services you desire. $13.5 billion was spent on search engine marketing in 2008 and the amount is increasing yearly. The three largest players in search engine marketing are Google AdWords, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and Microsoft adCenter.

Google AdWords is Google's main source of income, in 2010 Google brought in $28 billion in advertising revenue. Google AdWords offers three main ways for companies to advertising, pay-per-click, cost-per-thousand advertising, and site-targeted advertising for banner or rich media ads. When using the pay-per-click system marketers choose how much they are willing to "bid" for a certain keyword, this means they set a maximum for what they are willing to pay-per-click. If there bid is high enough they will show up on Google as a sponsored link and hopefully be seen by the user. Marketers also have access to the "Google Display Network" which are sites that aren't search engines.

Google will place banner or rich media ads on these sites for you based on keywords you've entered and what Google has decided the subject of the website to be. Yahoo! Search Marketing and Microsoft adCenter both work very similarly to Google AdWords, but they don't offer users the ability to enter a "display network" like Google does.

Search engine marketing has been the subject of some controversy in the past. Users would sometimes not be able to distinguish what were organic search results and what were paid placement search results. Most search engines now make it clear which results are organic and which are sponsored, but users still need to be careful as changes are always being made.

A major controversy associated with search engine marketing is whether companies should be able to bid on the brand names or product names owned by their competition. Should Playstation be able to bid on the search term Xbox? This is an ongoing debate and even though Google has repeatedly changed its policy companies continue to complain.

Search engine marketing is an industry that is growing larger and becoming more useful every year. Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft provide the three most useful tools for getting involved in SEM, but as with everything, you need to be careful with how you use it and make sure your SEM practices are ethical.

5 Successful Social Media Campaigns

By Takara Alexis

Social media is still relatively new so marketers are still figuring out how to use it effectively. Here are a few campaigns who used social media properly and saw excellent results.

1. The Gap- Popular clothing retailer The Gap teamed up with online coupon dealer Groupon and offered $50 worth of clothes for just $25. 441,000 of these coupons were sold which generated $11 million in revenue for The Gap. Not bad for a promotion lasting one day. This campaign helped The Gap gain new customers that they may have never reached otherwise. The Gap hopes that these customers stay with them and don't shop at The Gap only when there are deals.

2. Mountain Dew- Mountain Dew ran a successful social media campaign based around the concept of DEWmocracy. Mountain Dew released three new flavors to the public and customers were then able to vote on which flavor they liked the best. The winning flavor would then be sold full time and the others would be canned. This campaign worked because it got customers involved and made them feel like they had a voice in the future of the Mountain Dew brand. This social media campaign generated buzz, which is always a good thing. The only downside is people whose flavors lost may feel betrayed by the company.

3. Old Spice- If you say "the Old Spice guy" to someone they immediately know who you are talking about. This shows how well Old Spice executed their campaign based around ridiculous commercials bending the laws of reality and pushing male bravado to a new level. Old Spice took to social media and had the Old Spice guy answers questions sent in by fans in a series of YouTube videos that generated a lot of views and created a buzz for Old Spice. Their sales haven't yet shown it, but Old Spice is growing as a brand name.

4. The Arcade Fire- Grammy-winning band the Arcade Fire used social media in an interesting way to generate hype for their album The Suburbs. They created an "interactive music video" that asked users for their address and then local landmarks were used as Arcade Fire's song "We Used to Wait" played. The experience was surreal as you saw a music video, but you could recognize all of the places in it. This innovative experience spread across the internet and gained Arcade Fire fans who had previously never heard of them.

5. The Blair Witch Project- Although much older than the other campaigns on this list there is no doubt it was an effective one. Before the release of the movie fake police reports and newspaper clippings were posted online about the teens that were supposedly taken by the "Blair Witch". This excited moviegoers as they felt they were experiencing a movie that was truly real. The success of this campaign can still be seen today as some people still mistakenly think the Blair Witch Project is actual footage of actual teens.
