What is an Errol Morris Teleprompter ?

By Bill Milling

Interrotron Prompters hit NY Just when you thought the world is overloaded with useless gadgets comes a device that makes so much sense you wonder why nobody thought of it before. We just came across a new way to use teleprompters that makes for far better on camera interviews. documentarian and author Errol Morris invented a teleprompter-like setup in conducting interviews which he has named the Interritron Prompter .The teleprompter is rigged on the camera often a video camera); however, rather than displaying a typed script, it is used to display the image captured by a video camera focused on the interviewer who is seated just a few yards away

Consequently, the interviewee can look directly into the lens of the camera to watch the interviewers face while speaking, instead of off elsewhere.

The camera focused on the questioner can also be set up with a prompter displaying the subject (using the video tap output if a movie camera is used on the subject). Thus, the two people can carry out a virtual ordinary interview for the event . The usefulness of this invention is to allow the interviewer and his subject to talk with each other while looking right into the lens of the camera. Before the discovery of the device both parties in the conversation needed to look into a cold camera lens rather than directly at the individual in the show

Even if, the interviewer stood right up against the camera tripod, the the interviewee just seemed to be facing the wrong direction.

Morriss Interrotron is now an common product found on video interview locations

A very high percentage of top level film stages have a least two Interritrons . In New York The American Movie Company at 212-952-1800 (www.AmericanMovieCo.com) and Teleprompter-New York.com and Production Central , Oraculum Pictures and Ventura Productions all have these gadgets .

We rate the Interrotron as one of the best new video devices
