PVC Recycling Is Good For The Environment

By Mark Ferguson

Global warming is a reality and most people contribute to it daily without a second thought. PVC recycling is a good idea and it contributes to saving the environment from demise. When plastic bottles are thrown away, the environment suffers drastic consequences.

Plastic is probably the most disposable material in America. Americans dispose of 2.5 million plastic bottles every hour. Plastic packaging, grocery bags, trash bags, water bottles and milk bottles make up a large percentage of the litter found on the street side in cities. It contributes to a large extent to the litter on landfills.

It is not known for absolute fact just how long this material takes to biodegrade as it has not been on earth long enough to assess this. Plastic as it is currently known to man has only been around for a century and it is already starting to cause damage to the planet. Two to three hundred years from now it is going to be an even bigger crisis. Scientists are predicting that it will take a couple of hundred years for this substance to biodegrade entirely.

Although plastic is easy to recycle, few people take the time to do it. According to certain studies, only approximately 10% of the plastic bottles that are manufactured, are recycled. Therefore, 90% of all manufactured plastic bottles end up on landfills or in the ocean, where it kills sea animals and pollute the water.

Today this substance has been made in a way that contains much less of the harmful substances than was the case in days gone by. Some of it does not even contain cadmium; lead, artificial coloring other substances. Older kinds are still polluting the oceans and landfill and are doing damage to the planet. The pollutants that arise from this are very harmful especially when there is run off into the groundwater.

PVC recycling is a useful for many purposes. The material is used to create flowerpots, drainpipes, scouring pads, carpeting and plastic lumber. The oils can be reused as fossil fuels.
