By Joann T. Morris

You might have an impression resume written on a piece of paper but a wonderful resume can only get you through the initial stage of applying for a job. The real challenge is how you get through the series of interviews that follows. For you to survive a competitive job application, here are some things that will help you keep an edge from others.

Know the company well before you set out to apply for the job. The more you know about the company the more chances you will get a correct answer by the time the HR department begins the interview.

Prepare your personal information and write them on your resume. Be prepared to defend the things that you write on your resume as people will be asking you about it. Always be prepared.

Look formal. Even though it is just an interview, looking formal or professional can put you up the scale. The more you look professional, the more people will take you seriously.

If you have the chance, grab someone from inside the company and talk to him. Get some inside information on how the company works from someone who is already working. You will surely have an thorough idea on what the HR department is looking for by the time you apply.

Always have eye contact when you are having your interview. Say what you mean and deliver your answer in a calm cool manner. If the interviewer notices that you are a bit nervous, chances are, he will think that you are not able to compose yourself during tough situations.

Gather all the possible questions that might be thrown at you during the interview to ensure that you are well prepared in advance. Although most of the time, questions are situational and out of the blue, they contain mostly about what you will be able to contribute to the company.

Take your time to practice doing interviews with your friends before you head out with your application. Preparation is always the key to ultimate success. Although there might be times that the interview will be done through the phone, the way you will be answering each questions will matter whether you will be accepted or not so be sure to practice answering questions.
