Reaching The Unreached By Advertising

By Erin Song

In an overall promotional strategy, one of the most important part is advertising. With the continuing increase in competition in the market today, advertising has become inevitable. Have you tried asking yourself just how many of us are unreached by advertising? When you walk the street, to the right and left stretched streets showing hotels, apartment houses, private houses, restaurants and saloons, out of which live people who have or have not come in contact with any form of advertising. Then on the next block, you may see another crowd who apparently has no thought of advertising. Newspapers and magazines are what nearly all of them are familiar with, but to what degree?

Some take up the newspaper to read the political news and views and nothing more. Some read newspapers to glance at the sports page and nothing more. Others would only take up the newspaper to read the gossip section and nothing more. As for the rest, reading the newspaper is something they wouldn't bother doing. Because there are people who are distracted by personal matters, if they see an advertisement in the newspaper it won't make any impression on their minds. For this reason, it is important that as a business owner you know how to reach up to your target customers through your advertising materials.

The most important features of an advertisement are ideas, words and arrangement. Ideas would come first because they should be expressed correctly and the whole should be properly arranged with illustration and type. Let's say that you are planning to make a poster. Keep in mind that a clear message through good visual information and a minimum of text is what a good poster should convey. Legible, readable, and well organized is what it should be. Studies have shown that the majority of your readers will only absorb the punch line and that you will only have a few seconds to grab the attention of your readers.

The overall format of a good poster is reflected by the way you integrate the information. For instance, since we are not trained to read in such a way, you would never put your first section on the right and ask the reader to proceed to the left. Another thing that's important in a poster is space. Your reader will have no visual pauses to think if you don't have appropriate space. If books have a space on the margins and chapters as spaces, posters should likewise have spaces. If posters are crowded with information, then they will be tiring to read and they will also be seldom read. In order for the reader to understand your ideas easily, you should leave out all irrelevant text and images including borders between related data and text.

Remember that the point of view of every person is constantly changing. If you want to use your poster to influence your readers in buying your products or availing your services, then you have to make sure that your poster will do the talking to you.
