What Dou Mean Green?

By Alexis Wright

Everybody has heard a lot of buzz these days about "Going Green." This concept has raised a lot of questions in my head like "What does this mean?" and "How and why would you go green?"

In a nutshell, to go green means doing whatever it takes to keep the planet clean. There are people I often call "green freaks" who are in always in your face and won't shut up about going green. These people are so annoying and to be honest, they make me want to do the opposite of going green whatever that might look like.

People often debate on what are the best things to do in keeping our planet clean. It doesn't make sense to me to think of recycling aluminum could help keep the environment good and clean.

It's easy to understand why someone would go green to save money, whether it's by not running as much water or having an alternative to plastic or metal. I'm definitely willing to do the these it takes to go green if it means saving green. I don't see now it helps save the planet though.

Those freaks I mentioned a little bit ago often refuse to take taxis, jets and other types of vehicles because they're supposedly polluting the air. First of all, my thinking is if these things are going to be used anyway, why not use them? You can get places faster and more conveniently, be more productive and save money. Why would you possible turn that down?

All that being said, I definitely understand doing things that people may consider going green, but if it's has anything to do with fighting global warming or climate change, I believe we're wasting our time, money and energy. I can't even convince myself for split second that by taking a taxi club or flying across the country that I'm contributing to making the planet significantly hotter or colder. It just doesn't make any sense.

OK, having said all that let me take a crack at answering the questions from the beginning of this post. Question: What exactly does it mean to go green? Answer: Doing our part to keep the environment clean and fight global warming, I guess. That's the best explanation I can give.

Question: How do you go green? There are so many suggested ways, and I can't even scrape the surface. Use less gas and energy, recycle, etc. Google it.

Question: Why go green? Answer: My personal belief is a great reason to go green is to save money. If you're within walking distance of work or school, walk or ride a bike. This will help you save money on gas while others will argue it will help the environment and fight global warming.
