Using Social Media Internet Marketing To Increase Business

Thousands of businesses are using social media marketing to promote their businesses online. Most use one of the top three social media websites: Facebook, Myspace or Twitter. Social media Internet marketing can be a very profitable way to spread the word about your business.

Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, the three main networking sites, have over ten billion page views each year. The other social networking sites have one billion or fewer page views yearly. Facebook's users tend to be older, while Myspace has huge teen and artist use. Twitter also has an older demographic, as does LinkedIn.

There are basically two ways to view social network marketing. You can target the largest sites (Facebook, Myspace or Twitter) to try and take advantage of the sheer number of people, or you can target several of the smaller social network sites to take advantage of the smaller amount of competition. Once you decide which network to begin with, the process for marketing is essentially the same.

Your first task upon signing your business up with a social networking site is to complete your business' profile and create a fan page. You can target specific groups of people to match the audience who might want to be a fan of your business. The key is to post interesting information to your fan page that will not be perceived as only an advertisement. Post videos, information about your specials, sales, contests, events and other interesting information about your company, its employees and customers.

If your business focuses on a broad topic, such as pets, you may consider creating a group where members who are interested in pets can gather to share stories or information with one another. Not every business will need a group page.

Using social networking sites to market your business is not an instant money-maker. It takes time and energy to cultivate friendships, fans and to moderate groups correctly. Social network marketing is definitely a long-term strategy that can pay off very well for your company if it is handled well from the beginning. On the other hand, if this type of marketing gets off to a bad start, making a bad impression, it is very difficult to recover from that kind of mistake. It is worth your time to learn how to do social media Internet marketing properly before you get started.
